Roanoke People & Places Monday
Come here every Monday for the scoop on attractions & events as well as the individuals who make Roanoke great. You’ll also enjoy some hidden treasure finds for tight budgets as well as short reviews (I’ll only feature the ones I like) on privately-operated restaurants (sorry, franchise chain fans, you’ll need to go elsewhere).
My journey toward home ownership in this city (technically county, but oh so close) was done mostly remotely while working full time “up North”. I gave up on the “getting legal” part of business operation from afar once I realized things are more complicated down here for such things than in New York (who would have thought?), where I hung my business owner hat for more than 20 years. Check out the Thursday blog feature for more on this later. Hopefully, I can help you avoid some of the hours and miles I logged in compliance.
One of the things I wanted to do during trips scheduled to tour houses for sale (and get legal in this State to do business) was visit attractions and enjoy some locally-owned restaurant cuisine. Finding what I was looking for proved tougher than imagined. Now, I’m on a mission to make it easier for others to locate what they seek in a single, easy-to-navigate place.
As I get time, I’ll be bringing my camera (or will have my iPhone for unplanned excursion) to celebrated and not so known locations in the area to help you see what’s here (finding good photo links to Roanoke attractions was another challenge).
Will I share some “don’t bother” destinations here too? Probably not, but that perspective may change once I stop feeling like a foreigner. Perhaps you’ll only know for sure if you subscribe below ;-).
